Acer Plans to Expand Server Portfolio
with Launch of 17 New Models: Reports

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Acer (www.acer.com), the second-largest PC manufacturer in the world, has announced it will be expanding in the server market with the launch of a line of new servers including blades and other high-density servers.
According to a report from The Times of India, Acer plans to launch a wide range of 17 new models under four different server categories: tower, rack, density optimised servers, and blades. Acer’s current offerings fall into the tower and rack form factor categories.
In late March, Acer announced its intension to increase its presence on the server market. As part of this push, it announced a strategic partnership with AMD to develop its products and solutions, extending its range of products featuring AMD as a strategic partner for its new server line up.
“Acer Group is demonstrating their commitment to innovation with this new range of high-performance servers,” Acer Group global server business development vice president Gianluca Degliesposti said in a statement. “By taking advantage of the unique features of the new AMD Opteron 6000 Series platform, Acer Group SMB channel and HPC partners are well positioned to deliver extreme value with high performance, energy efficient servers to customers worldwide.”
Acer India chief marketing officer S Rajendra told The Times of India reporters that Acer is also developing a solution specifically designed for optimal density, which can be used for applications that are memory and computer intensive. Acer occupies the fourth position in the server market in India after HP, Dell and IBM, and Rajendra said the company plans to double its market share to more than 14 percent from its 7.5 percent share reported in the first quarter of 2010.
